Shopping a sale? Enter the original price and the percent off to see exactly what you will pay and how much you save. Add your local sales tax to get the final amount at the register.
Formula
Sale price = Original price × (1 − Discount ÷ 100)
Sales tax is applied to the discounted price: Total = Sale price × (1 + Tax ÷ 100).
Stacked discounts
Two discounts in a row do not add up. “20% off, then an extra 10% off” is 1 − 0.8 × 0.9 = 28% off, not 30%. Run the calculator twice, using the first sale price as the second original price.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate 25% off?
Multiply the price by 0.75. For example, 25% off $120 is $120 × 0.75 = $90, a saving of $30.
Is sales tax calculated before or after the discount?
In most places sales tax is charged on the discounted price, which is how this calculator works.
